The Journey of Mama Bear Lice Care
It all started with a simple haircut—or rather, the lack thereof. Cue the bugs, the panic… and the olive oil.
Emily took her daughter to get a haircut, only to be turned away. The reason? Lice. Her heart sank. How had she missed this? She’d even checked her daughter’s head after noticing some itching, but she didn’t know what to look for. At that moment, Emily felt like she’d failed as a mom. But that humbling experience became the spark for something much bigger.
Panicked, Emily imagined endless laundry and bagged-up belongings. She called for help and hired a local lice treatment company. They spent hours combing through their hair, applying their so-called “natural solution”—olive oil. It was messy, frustrating, and, worst of all, ineffective. Emily was relieved to learn that lice don’t live in the environment, so the massive cleaning spree wasn’t necessary. Phew. But then came the kicker: they were told to leave the olive oil in their hair for eight hours and repeat the process multiple times over the next few weeks.
So there Emily was, slathering olive oil on four heads, combing tirelessly, and waiting for hours on end. As she worked, she realized how little she knew about lice. She turned to the internet, only to find a sea of misinformation, myths, and fear-mongering. The more she researched, the more she saw a gap—a need for clear, compassionate, and effective lice care. There had to be a better way.
Growing up in Minnesota, Emily remembered clinics offering one-and-done solutions. Why wasn’t that an option in Colorado? Determined to find a faster, easier, and proven approach, she dove into research. What she discovered was life-changing.
Emily began to wonder: What if I could help other families avoid this stress? What if I could turn this frustrating experience into something manageable? The thought kept creeping into her mind, growing louder and more persistent until she finally said it out loud: I could do this.
But she knew she couldn’t do it alone. That’s when Emily reached out to her friend Melanie Donohoue.
